MLB The Show 21, developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s San Diego Studio, will launch on Xbox Game Pass on April 20 — its release day. Major League Baseball and Microsoft announced the news on Friday via the Xbox Wire.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have instant access to MLB The Show 21 on April 20 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can play the game on Android devices via the cloud on that date. The game has cross-platform play and progress, which means that players can easily switch which device they’re playing on.
“As we said from the beginning, this is an incredible moment for all of us and bringing the franchise to more players and baseball fans is something we we at MLB, MLB Players, Inc., and Xbox are all excited about,” MLB games vice president Jamie Leece said.
It was surprising enough to learn that the formerly PlayStation-exclusive baseball sim would launch on Microsoft’s consoles — making this the first “simulation-quality game” to launch on Xbox since Major League Baseball 2K13.
Now, Xbox Game Pass is easily the best deal in gaming for sports fans — it has most of the major franchise titles, including NBA 2K, Madden NFL, Football Manager, FIFA, and NHL. (Electronic Arts’ sports games are part of EA Play, which comes with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.)
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $14.99 a month and includes Xbox Live Gold, which lets players access online multiplayer.
MLB The Show 21 launches April 20 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
